JACKSON TRANSPORTATION: WE'RE COMING. WE'RE GOING. WE'RE ON IT.

There are three ways students travel to and from our campuses each day: by bus, by car, and by foot. In order to protect our children and maintain efficiency, we've adopted the following policies and procedures that we ask all visitors to observe, along with any signage around the school grounds regarding traffic and parking.

1. Bus Riders
Bus transportation is provided for all eligible students. To be eligible, a student must meet the following criteria:

• An elementary student must live more than one mile by the nearest practical route from his/her zoned school. Those students who have received administrative transfers may go to the closest appropriate bus stop and receive free transportation to the school of their choice.

• A student in the Program for Exceptional Children (PEC) must have an IEP that stipulates special needs transportation and/or that he/she resides outside the boundary of the assigned school. PEC students residing within their assigned school boundary and not requiring special needs transportation are eligible under the regular guidelines.

Should you have any questions or concerns regarding bus transportation, please contact the APS Transportation office at: (404) 753-9815.

2. Carpool Riders
Carpool students should be dropped off and picked up only in the designated carpool areas.

a. Carpool Guidelines:
- No cell phone use while dropping off or picking up.
- Car must be in park prior to doors opening.
- Students will be loaded and unloaded from the curbside doors only.
- Students are to exit car in a timely manner.
- No car idling in carpool line.
- No opening of trunks or getting out of car while children are loading or unloading.
- Pull close to the curb and keep hazard lights blinking.
- Pedestrians have the right-of-way.
- Follow Right Turn In and Out rule.
- Do not block driveways, entranceways, or streets.
- At Jackson Primary, cars line up on Northside Drive and not Hillside Drive.
- Keep carpool cards visible.

All carpool riders will be issued either a blue or yellow carpool card with your last name. Please place this card in the front windshield on the passenger side of your car.

Should you have any questions or concerns regarding carpool, please contact the PTA Carpool Chairperson.

b. Carpool and Bus Loading Information
APS buses will load and unload in the front of each campus.   In the morning, the buses will drop off students at Jackson Primary first and then at the Main Campus. In the afternoon, Jackson Primary students will be loaded on the buses by 2:20 p.m. and will then travel over to the Main Campus to load the students from that building by 2:30 p.m. Carpool will begin at the Main Campus and Jackson Primary at 2:30 p.m. after the buses depart.

At the Main Campus:   Carpool will run along the Media Center side of the building.  Cars should line up along the right side of the front driveway but you must leave plenty of room for the buses to be able to turn in the front circle and exit the school via the main driveway.  Do not line up on Mt. Paran Road at all and remember to make Right turns into and out of the school whenever possible and prudent.

At Jackson Primary:  Carpool will run along the front of the school building.  Cars should line up on the right side of Northside Drive. Do not line up on Hillside Drive at all and remember to make right turns into and out of the school whenever possible and prudent.

If you have children at both locations, pick up your child(ren) at Jackson Primary first and then proceed to the carpool line at the Main Campus.

1. If you need to pick your child up early, please note these very specific dismissal times.   After these specified times, students will only be dismissed to either the bus or carpool areas or the walker areas. No exceptions allowed.  If you have an appointment or other activity immediately after school, you must pick your child up before the following dismissal times:

a. Main Campus No students will be dismissed from their classrooms after 2:15 p.m.

b. Jackson Primary No students will be dismissed from their classrooms after 2:00 p.m. (This timing is intentionally earlier to allow for efficient bus loading in the afternoon.)

2. Student drop off or pick up is only permitted in the following specified areas:

a. At the Main Campus: Students must be dropped off and picked up in the designated carpool area which veers to the left at the bottom of the driveway (in front of the Media Center/Library). No students are to be dropped off or picked up on Coronado Drive at all.  Buses will enter the Main Campus in the afternoon via Coronado Drive and this road must remain completely accessible. The only exceptions to this rule are Jackson families that are residents of the Mt Paran Parkway Neighborhood Association (these students are not provided with bus transportation by APS). These residents will have a special parking decal or pass that allows them to use Coronado Drive. Should you not observe this rule, you will be asked to move your car.

b. At Jackson Primary: Students must be dropped off and picked up in the designated carpool area along the front of the school.  No students are to be dropped off or picked on Exeter Close or Carriage Way at all.  The only exceptions to this rule are Jackson families that are residents of those streets (these students are not provided with bus transportation by APS). These residents will have a special parking decal or pass that allows them to use these streets. Should you not observe this rule, you will be asked to move your car.

3. Walkers:
Students may walk to Jackson if they live within one mile of the school and can walk safely to the campus. These students are not eligible for bus service. Walkers may wait in the front lobby of either campus for a parent to meet them. Students are dismissed from the classrooms to walk home at approximately 2:30 p.m.

IF YOU NEED TO MAKE A CHANGE IN TRANSPORTATION on any given day, it must be in writing. The child¹s name, teacher¹s name, contact phone number and change of plans (which bus, etc.), must be included. You may include a note in your child's backpack directly for the teacher, or you can make a change by phoning either campus by no later than 1:30 p.m., except in the case of an extreme emergency. Written notification is required to ensure that the school is fully aware of any changes. Please understand that is a security issue, and requires the support of all our parents.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR COOPERATION!
