Jackson Robotixx
A group that has it all together.
Jackson's Robotixx club consists of three teams of some very hands-on 4th and 5th graders. Students meet, build and program robots which perform various tasks such as inserting a Lego stint into a Lego artery or dropping a Lego cast onto a Lego broken bone. The teams compete against other schools and organizations within the city, state, nation, and in the final event, against teams from all over the world. The robotics program teaches teamwork, innovative thinking, problem solving and creativity in a format driven and directed by club members.
This initiative was conceived by a fifth grader, Michael Hobbs, who presented his idea via PowerPoint presentation to Jackson's PTA in early 2010. In its first competition year, the team did well enough to advance to the Super Regionals! Super indeed, when you consider they were competing against more experienced teams made up of 7th and 8th graders.
FIRST/First Lego League sponsors these events.
