Awards and Achievements: Or, how making the grade around here goes
beyond report cards.

When you do the math at Jackson Elementary, it's easy to see how highly successful students plus a top-notch faculty plus enhanced learning facilities plus progressive philosophies plus aggressive academics equals an environment of excellence.

If we had to rank them, we'd say our three most distinguished awards include recognition as a National Blue Ribbon School, a Georgia School of Excellence and an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School. This coveted accreditation focuses on developing each one of our students to be an inquirer both within the classroom - and in the world at large.

Then we'd add the following notable honors:

• In 2008, our principal, Dr. Lorraine Reich, and fourth grade teacher, Tamara Guilday, each received the Atlanta Families’ Awards for Excellence in Education.  This honor is awarded to those that have made a significant quantitative and qualitative contribution toward student success. What's more, Jackson was the only school to have two of its staff recognized simultaneously.

• The Georgia Department of Education has consistently named Warren T. Jackson Elementary a Georgia School of Excellence. Our school was selected for finishing in the Top 10 for student achievement in reading/language arts, math and social studies in multiple grades.

• Jackson is consistently ranked in the Top10 in the State of Georgia in student achievement.

• The Georgia Department of Education has recognized Warren T. Jackson Elementary every year at either the Platinum, Gold or Silver status for Highest Percentage in meeting and exceeding academic standards. Jackson received Platinum designation from the Governor’s Office for the school’s exceptional student performance on the statewide 2008 CRCT exams as well as the 2009 CRCT exams. This highest honor was the only one of its kind bestowed upon any APS public school that year.

• Dr. Reich has been chosen by the Governor¹s Office as one of the Top 100 High-Performing Principals in Georgia.

• Dr. Reich was selected as a member of the Oxford Round Table in Oxford, England to discuss important contemporary educational issues and policies.

• The Atlanta Business Chronicle named Jackson the Best Public Elementary School in Atlanta.

• Jackson has reached or exceeded academic targets set by the Atlanta Public Schools System every year, and our teachers receive bonuses based on those results.

• Tamara Guilday, a fourth grade teacher, was selected as the Atlanta Public Schools Elementary Teacher of the Year.

• Several Jackson teachers have been nominated for the Disney Teacher Awards.

• The Jackson Elementary Wellness Program has been recognized and spotlighted as a role model by the Atlanta Public Schools System and earned a Bronze award as a Healthy School in 2010.

• In 2008, a Jackson kindergarten teacher, Ms. Sparks, had the wonderful honor of having her first children's book, Honey and the Sunset, published! Her manuscript was hand selected by Dorrance Publishing Company from hundreds of manuscripts in the Library of Congress. Ms. Sparks not only wrote the story, but also painted all of book's beautiful visuals using watercolors.

From international achievements and national awards to local recognition and personal bests, the good words about Jackson just continue to multiply.
